The Non Governmental Organisation, Healthy Information and Technology Awareness (HITA) was presented the award for supporting communities and young people with training and startup kits, and sensitizing them on hygiene and sanitation, as well as provide shelter, water and food to IDPs.

The award was presented during the 10th anniversary celebration of Newswatch newspaper that took place at Djeuga Palace Hotel in Yaounde, Saturday 19 August 2023.

The prestigious award for sustained involvement in community mobilisation was received on behalf of HITA by its Executive Director, King Suh.

“I will first of all thank God for his grace, then I thank Newswatch for recognising HITA,” King Suh said.

HITA was chosen among other organisations due to their selfless services to communities especially in the North West region of Cameroon, hit with crisis since 2016. The achievement of the NGO is thanks to a well coordinated team of devoted experts.

“I thank my team because without them, I won’t be here to receive this award,” King Suh said.

Community services

For ten (10) years and counting, HITA has been rendering selfless community services in the North West region. One of it is training offered to the less preivileged.

“We have trained more than a hundred Cameroonians in secretariat services, more than 50 others in fashion designing, more that 20 in graphic design and website building,” says the Executive Director of HITA.

Besides personal skills development, HITA has been providing shelter and startup kits to IDPs and street children in the region. Communities have also benefited from portable water distribution offered by the NGO.

“We were the first to provide portable water to inhabitants of new road junction in Bamenda,” says King Suh.

“We have also provided water in Ntabessi quarter, and we have an up coming water project in Ndamukong street.”

Ntabessi is one of the quarters that have truly benefited a lot from the different road infrastructure services of HITA, like the construction of bridges linking communities.

“One of our bridges is linking Ntabessi quarter to Mile 2 Nkwen in Bamenda,” King Suh said.

Receiving the award on sustainable development services is expected to boost the commitment of the Non Governmental Organization. The Executive Director of HITA however places the future in the hands of God.

“I just think that when God wants you to be a blessing to others, he will always use you, by God’s grace, HITA will do more,” he said.

The Executive Director of the NGO, added that they will continue to carry on Psycho-social support on sensitization, and building the capacities of youth on positive ICT usage. They will provide relevant avenues for youth to develop good communication skills and healthy habits. The research and reintegration center of the NGO is set up for that purpose, including accommodation for the Internal Displace Persons (IDPs).
