Story, Louvier Kindo Tombe

From 15 to 18 April 2026, Cameroon vibrated to the rhythm of the apostolic visit of Pope Leo XIV. From Yaounde to Douala, all the way to Bamenda, this moment of spiritual fervour was also a high‑intensity logistical and technological challenge. Behind the scenes, one player played a decisive role: CAMTEL.

From the earliest preparatory stages, the State’s topmost authorities, at the impetus of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, set a clear goal: a “hitch-free visit”.

A firm requirement, befitting the event and its international scale. In this context, CAMTEL, as the State’s technical arm in the field of telecommunications, fully rose to the challenge of its strategic mission: guarantee smooth, secure, and continuous connectivity for sovereign services, international media, television channels, radio stations, digital platforms, and the strategic sites prepared for the occasion.

Early Mobilisation, Committed Leadership

Under the leadership of its General Manager, Mrs Judith Yah Sunday épse Achidi, the company embarked on a methodical preparation, built around a dedicated task force. The goal: map needs, reinforce existing infrastructure, and anticipate critical scenarios through redundancy systems.

But beyond the technical preparation, a management style also came to the fore. Present in the field, close to the teams, the General Manager personally oversaw operations, embodying operational, demanding, results‑oriented leadership, an approach perfectly aligned with the vision championed by President Paul Biya, aimed at making Cameroon a reference digital hub in Central Africa.

Network Under Control, Incident‑Free Performance

At the technical level, CAMTEL made robust arrangements: increased transmission capacity, reinforced optical fibre links, optimised local loops, and activation of backup solutions, all managed by a Network Operations Centre (NOC) on permanent alert, with teams active 24/7.

The result is unequivocal: no interruption, no failure, no incident. Data collected confirms total network stability – no fibre cuts, no technical outage, no malfunction detected. A rare performance achieved under maximum international exposure.

Men and Women Equal to the Challenge

Behind this success are faces, skills, and commitment. Technicians, engineers, support teams – all rose to the occasion, often out of the spotlight, always with professionalism. Their responsiveness and operational mastery were decisive, reflecting the continuous improvement of the company’s human resources.

Excellence Built to Last

This success is no isolated event. A few weeks earlier, during the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation in Yaounde, CAMTEL had demonstrated its ability to support major international gatherings. Even earlier, during the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the company’s infrastructure was praised by international football bodies.

CAMTEL: Bedrock of Digital Sovereignty

Since its creation in 1998, CAMTEL has continuously strengthened its capabilities to deliver reliable, high‑performance services. The success of the system deployed during the Pope’s’ visit reinforces this track record.

Above all, it confirms a reality: beyond being an operator, CAMTEL is the bedrock of national digital sovereignty – a company that rises to historical challenges, seamlessly running the invisible machinery that connects a country to the rest of the world, in line with the strategic vision of President Paul Biya for a Cameroon marching resolutely towards a digital future.
