Story, Louvier Kindo Tombe

Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) is proving to be more than just a key partner at the 15th edition of the Government Action Fair (SAGO 2026); it is actively driving the conversation on national digital security.

In addition to providing high-speed internet across the trade fair village at the Yaoundé City Council esplanade, the historic telecom giant is using the platform to engage directly with the public.

A major highlight of Camtel’s participation was the spotlight on its state-of-the-art Zamengoué Data Center. This took center stage on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, during a press conference led by Camtel’s General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday Epse Achidi.

The discussion centered on the theme: “Protection of Public Data and Digital Sovereignty: Zamengoué Data Center at the Service of Government Actions and Cameroon’s Emergence.”

“Digital sovereignty is not just a slogan; it is constructed progressively,” Judith Yah Sunday stated during the presser. “We don’t stop at providing access to data; we protect data.”

Securing Cameroon’s Digital Assets

The presentation grew particularly engaging when the Head of the Zamengoué Data Center took the floor. He emphasized that state data has evolved into a strategic national resource and a critical patrimony requiring stringent protection. He assured the public that the data center has implemented robust, world-class measures to mitigate potential cyber threats and infrastructure challenges.

Reinforcing this point, the General Manager noted:
“Protecting state data ensures the continuity of public services, modernizes state administration, and accelerates the growth of the country’s digital economy.”

Tangible Achievements and Growing Trust

With participants eager to understand the practical impact of the facility, the General Manager and her technical team addressed various queries, outlining the center’s concrete contributions to national development.

The team highlighted an expanding roster of partners, including key government ministries, state administrations, private enterprises, and individual clients, who currently host their data locally at the Zamengoué facility.
While celebrating this growth, the General Manager urged more local entities to step up:

The Challenge: Many Cameroonian institutions have yet to fully realize the strategic importance of hosting their data locally.
The Call to Action: Camtel is urging all data-producing bodies in Cameroon to utilize the facility, emphasizing that the infrastructure is fully equipped and open to all sectors.

The appeal resonated strongly, with several attendees and prospective partners promising to visit the center and transition their data management to the local hub.

Looking Ahead: Expansion and Recovery Plans

Responding to questions from journalists and tech experts, Judith Yah Sunday revealed Camtel’s forward-looking roadmap. She acknowledged the strategic necessity of establishing additional data centers for disaster recovery purposes.

Currently, the Zamengoué Data Center hosts the call centers for numerous state administrations. Moving forward, Camtel is actively working on expanding the infrastructure to host broader communication data in the near future, cementing its role as the backbone of Cameroon’s digital emergence.
