Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) has taken a historic step toward honoring it’s technological heritage by launching a landmark exhibition of its telecommunications patrimony.
The grand opening took place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the corporation’s headquarters in Yaoundé.
The event, which brought together top leadership including the Board Chairman, Mohamadou Saoudi, and the President of the General Assembly of Camtel, Ngolle Isaac Richard, marks the beginning of an ambitious cultural project: the establishment of Cameroon’s first-ever Telecommunications Museum.
“We are here to open a new page of history,” said Camtel’s General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday Epse Achidi, during the launch.
“The idea is to trace, memorize, document, and transmit the evolution of telecommunications in Cameroon. A company without history has no soul.”
Tracing the Journey from Creation to the Digital Age
A key highlight of the launch was a detailed presentation by Camtel’s Technical Inspector No. 2, Abbo Bello. He guided attendees through the company’s historical timeline, illustrating the dramatic shift in infrastructure, technical equipment, and consumer usage over the decades.
Following the presentation, dignitaries and visitors toured various exhibition stands. The open-to-the-public site features immersive displays that allow visitors to discover firsthand how drastically communication technology has evolved in Cameroon.
The memorial exhibition serves a dual purpose for Camtel’s leadership: it is both a celebration of past achievements and a reflection on the challenges of the future roadmap. Crucially, the initiative sends a powerful message to the company’s younger generation of professionals.
The GM paid tribute to the pioneering stakeholders and past leaders who laid the foundation of the corporation. She emphasized that younger personnel are not merely employees, but the foundational pillars driving a continuous national vision.
“Camtel will not sleep if Cameroon is not connected,” Judith Yah Sunday asserted, underscoring the company’s relentless commitment to national coverage.
While the museum project focuses on safeguarding historical legacy, Camtel’s ultimate objective remains forward-looking. The telecom giant is leveraging its rich history to fuel its next giant leap: pioneering the deployment of the 5G network across the country.
Through this blend of historical preservation and cutting-edge innovation, Camtel aims to fulfill its core mandate, opening Cameroon to the world, and bringing the world closer to Cameroon.
