The commitment was taken at the end of a 3-day forum on land governance that held in Cameroon from the 20th to the 22nd of March 2024 on the theme “Importance of youth centered land governance in climate related conversations”.
The participants that came in from Senegal, Togo, Malawi, Kenya, Benin, and Cameroon, acknowledged the fact that climate issues are interconnected with access to land, and saluted the Heads of States of Africa for adopting the UN framework convention on climate change (CCNUCC) and its annex instruments, as well as other important UN conventions.
The participants agreed that youth sensitive land governance will enhance biodiversity anb boost economic gains for youth agribusiness investments, and landuse planification.
Observations were made that youths are less involved in land governance in the continent, and that is why they came up with the resolutions to;
– Constantly refresh and upgrade their skills on the link between climate change, land and related issues,
– Systematically Integrate land issues in their different actions,
– continue to call on policy makers to consider land issues in climate change activities,
– Put in place a database of results from different youths actions,
– Continue to lobby for youth involvement and gender consideration in land issues,

Besides taking up upon themselves to build their capacities, the youth formulated resolutions towards their respective governments.
“We want our government’s to adopt land policies that favour the implication of youth, and reinforce land security issues,” the statement reads.
A call was equally issued to development partners to accompany youth-led Innitiatives.
