The Cameroon national pitch competition took place on Thursday February 29, 2024.
About 20 different presentations were made with the goal of winning the lone ticket to the global competition billed for Abu Dhabi – Dubai in May 2024. The competition was won by a group of four young IT engineers, three of them, graduates from the ICT University Cameroon. Their project was a tech solution to breast cancer known as “Intellibra“. This is a kit composed of a portable ultrasound imaging system embedded in a bra with a user-friendly mobile application.
“The ultrasound device emits waves into the breast tissues, captures echoes, and sends the signal to the mobile app,” says Anzia Juvis.
The comprehensive solution facilitates prompt diagnosis and offers options for medical records, sharing and communication with healthcare professionals.
The idea of Intellibra came about during one of their courses in level 1, Research Methods in ICT. “Intellibra was conceived at The ICT University and through different courses, we got the necessary knowledge needed to build the mobile application”, Anzia Juvis said.
“Advice from some of our instructors and dean helped us move forward in our findings.”
Way forward
The group of four, Anzia Juvis, Abdoul Azis, Baimam Boukar Jean and Chendjou Honore, are now preparing to defend Cameroon in the up coming global competition in Abu Dhabi in May.
“The next challenge is winning the final in Dubai”, Anzia Juvis said adding that “we look up to getting our device recognized by the Ministry of Public Health, and getting funds to produce our first 100 devices and placing them in different health facilities both in rural and urban areas”.
By winning the national first position, The ICT University students have catapulted the higher institution of learning to another level, with a call for students to follow their footsteps especially as registration is on for spring semester courses.
