The North West Regional boss, Governor Adolph Lele l’Afrique has visited some business premises and medical facilities in Bamenda, chieftain of the region to assess the level of implementation of the 13 measures spelt out by government to contain the spread of COVID-19.
From travel agencies, markets and health facilities, Governor Lele criss-crossed the city on Tuesday, March 31 accompanied by regional public health officials.
At three inter-urban transport agencies, it was observed that these bus stops still accommodate crowds at their agencies even as they have reduced the number of passengers per bus to 50.
Hand wash equipment are installed at all the bus stops which the regional boss rated as satisfactory.
A scapegoat in the course of the governor’s tour with an overloaded bus fell in the dragnet of the forces of law and order, and bus impounded immediately with sanctions awaiting the driver after a judicial process.
At the Bamenda Main and Food Markets which still receive thousands of traders and buyers, it is a satisfied Governor who appreciated measures taken by the “Market Master” to make available water and soap for hand washing but instructed that the bleach (eau de javel) attached to the former for hand washing be withdrawn.
The administration of the Regional Hospital Bamenda on its part has gone ahead to make available a ‘solidarity ward’ which is out of the hospital’s premise where suspected cases of COVID-19 are received for monitoring and treatment.
The hospital is also currently producing hand sanitizers to beat out what Dr Richard M Fondoh of Regional Hospital describes as fake products circulating in the local markets.
They are bottled there for sale at affordable price.
At the close of the over 3-hour tour, the chief executive encouraged stakeholders and economic operators to heed to all measures proposed by government to curb spread of the pandemic; save their lives and lives of population of the region.
