The decision was taken during an extraordinary general assembly that took place in Mbankomo Thursday October 29, 2020.

They were all together 18 elite clubs that met in Mbankomo to examine the future of professional football in Cameroon.

At the end of their deliberations, a vote of no confidence was passed on the league.

The president of Union Sportif of Douala, Franck Happi told News Upfront that it was a very dramatic decision.

“You can imagine, deciding to dissolving an organization in which you belong is a very difficult decision, I can’t say I’m happy because we didn’t need to get to this, but unfortunately for the good of our football, it was the only thing to do” he said.

The president of elite one champions, PWD of Bamenda, Pascal Abunde who was present in Mbankomo indicated that the decision will reshape and redefine professional football in the country.

President of PWD Bamenda, Pascal Abunde

“In order to build, we need to destroy and go back to the starting block, we have been playing a championship for nine years characterised by a lot of cacophony” he said.

On his part, Jacques Yong, president of Yong Sport Academy (YOSA) of Bamenda has an idea of the way forward.

“The next step is that the league has been dissolved and what ever is left of it has been handed back to its mother, the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT” he declared.

For the past months, the management of professional football in Cameroon was a call for concern.

A group of elite clubs have questioned the actions of the president of the league, Gen. Pierre Semengue, accusing him of trying to ignore the basic texts of the league, which is detrimental to the practice of football.

An earlier general assembly organized by the clubs in Mbankomo was banned by administrative authorities but the clubs reintroduced another application signed by Franck Happi which was authorized.

General Pierre Semengue on his part continue to prepare for the take-off of the new football season billed for Sunday November 1, 2020.

The opening encounter at the Yaounde Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium from 6:00 PM (Cameroon Time) shall pit Panthere FC of Nde to Coton Sports of Garoua.

FECAFOOT it should be noted is not ready to release referees for the encounter as a seminar grouping referees in Cameroon is billed for that same Sunday November 1, organized by the football federation.

The success of the take off of the new season is thus at stake, and if it fails, it will not be the first time for the opening match to fail.

A recent example was at the opening of the 2018/2019 football season at the Military Stadium.
