Story, Louvier Kindo Tombe

Attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) without adequate preparation often leads to overwhelming confusion given the technical nature of global climate diplomacy.

To address this gap and sharpen local negotiating capacity, Young Volunteers for the Environment (JVE-Cameroon) hosted a two-day national training workshop in Yaoundé last week.

Held at the conference room of the United Nations Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa, situated in the Bastos neighborhood, the session aimed to demystify complex climate negotiation frameworks and prepare participants for the upcoming COP 31, scheduled for November in Antalya, Türkiye.

The workshop brought together around 50 civil society organization (CSO) leaders and media communicators who participated to ensure stronger strategic alignment and effectiveness during future international climate engagements.

A key highlight was the presentation by Mr. Timothée Kagombe, UNFCCC/IPCC Focal Point and representative of the Minister of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED).

In his intervention, Mr. Kagombe outlined the major stakes of international climate negotiations and articulated Cameroon’s expectations for COP 31. He emphasized that active, well-informed participation from non-state actors, civil society, and journalists is critical to advancing national and regional climate priorities on the global stage.

By equipping civil society leaders with concrete negotiation tools and context, the JVE-Cameroon workshop ensures that local actors can navigate international climate forums with clarity, precision, and purpose.
