Students of the Yaounde International Business School all gathered at the conference hall of the institution Thursday February 8, 2024 for a training seminar on ethical leadership and entrepreneurship. The event was part of activities organized by the higher institute of learning to celebrate the 58th Youth Day in Cameroon come February 11.
For over two hours, Rev. Pst. Foka Clarence Liiwong from the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon presented on ethics and career development.
“The first thing you need to know and work by is the general ethics of your profession and then those of you company,” Rev. Foka said.
“These are things like discipline, integrity, honesty, time management, among others.”
The students were informed that ethical values differ from one company to another but all have same objectives and benefits to workers and the company as well.
“They help you to build a good working condition and collaboration with your peers, advance in your career, become a good professional and stand as a role model in the society,” Rev. Foka told News Upfront.
“Ethical values equally contribute to the growth of the company.”
The activity according to scribes of YIBS falls within the framework of the institution’s mission of developing innovative and competent professionals.
The Vice Chancellor of the Yaounde International Business School, Rev. Anyambod Emmanuel Anya, told reporters that “at YIBS, we transform knowledge into practical skills”.
“We invited experts in different domains to come and talk to the students on how to behave in a work place, and how to create jobs and contribute to nation building,” Rev. Anyambod said.
There presentation on entrepreneurship caught the attention of most of the students as it touched them directly. The expert said most youth spend time on social media and ignore happenings in their daily lives. The message was well received.
“We were told that it’s important to be more conscious of the happenings around us, and to look for solutions to the problems we face,” says Temfack Ngnietendem, level I, IT student.
YIBS – Princess Ako support project for the needy
Still in line with activities to mark the youth week in Cameroon, the Yaounde International Business School sponsored a humanitarian gesture from one of its students, Ako Princess.
The young leader, through the initiative wants to contribute in assisting the vulnerable in the society. That is how a team from YIBS visited an orphanage in Yaounde, “Notre Dame de la Misericorde” and donated gifts for their wellbeing.
“We put together bags of rice, juice, clothes, oil, and other food stuff including didactic materials, and cash for them,” Ako Princess said.
The choice of the orphanage was not made haphazardly, a team was sent for feasibility studies and the feedback guided the decision.
“We opted for this one because it is located in the outskirts of the city where people rarely visit, and also because it has limited staff with a single lady in charge of over 34 orphans,” Ako Princess added.
The youth week activities at YIBS continue and will end with the celebration of the youth day come February 11.
