The convention was signed Thursday January 30, 2024 at Djeuga Palace hotel in Yaoundé. It is significant collaboration is expected to amplify the voices of children and ensure their rights are protected.
According to Haenni Juliette, deputy resident representative of UNICEF Cameroon, community radios have a crucial role to play in promoting child rights, in sectors like health services, education, good nutrition, among others.
“Through this partnership, we aim to create a platform where children’s voices can be heard and their rights respected,” Haenni Juliette said.
“This partnership will enable us to reach a wider audience, particularly in rural areas, and ensure that children’s rights are protected.”
To the spokesperson of the platform of community radios in Cameroon, community radios are a powerful tool for social change, but they often lack the means to fully exercise.
The coming of UNICEF is seen as a booster to their activities as the UN body will provide technical assistance of varied forms,
“Through this partnership, we can create a wave of positive change that promotes child rights and protects the most vulnerable members of our society.”
This partnership is timely, given the current challenges faced by children in Cameroon.
With the support of community radios, UNICEF aims to raise awareness about child rights and promote a culture of respect and protection for children.
The partnership convention marks the beginning of a new era in promoting child rights in Cameroon.
