The Director General of Elections, Erick Essousse, has urged all candidates and political parties to accept the results obtained from the polls, which to him “is the norm in any democracy worthy of the name.”

He made that call March 22, following the legislative election re-run in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon.

To this, he hailed the spirit in which the elections took place amid some threats. “Polling operation should took place normally in the different polling stations.Electors voted in an orderly manner, discipline and transparency. The elections campaigns that preceded the polling operations were also marked by calm and order, despite some intimidation and threats noticed in some areas.”

He therefore saluted the various involved in the electoral process as well as Elections Cameroon personnel for their sense of responsibility, patriotism, sacrifice and bravery demonstrated in the respective constituencies.

In this vein, the Director General of Elections said, “in view of the election of members of the National Assembly in certain constituencies of the Northwest and Southwest regions, polling stations opened at 8am and closed at 6pm,” as stipulated in the electoral code.

Thus, the vote counting would be done by the Local Polling Commissions and would be forwarded to the Divisional Supervisory Commission, whom in return will send their reports to the National Commission for the Final Counting of Votes. Also, the national commission for the final counting of votes will equally send the report of their proceedings to the Constitutional Council for the proclamation of the final results.

Meantime, the legislative  elections re-run in some localities of the two Anglophone regions witnessed a total of 420,027 voters dispatched in 1, 646 polling stations precisely in Bui, Menchum, Mezam, and  Momo Division of the Northwest region, and Lebialmem of the Southwest region.
