The position of the National President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) was made public by his spokesperson.

Many are those who believe that the hacked facebook account of Elections Cameroon (Elecam) is the work of supporters of the CRM scribe.

This because the published message by the hackers carried the photo of Prof Maurice Kamto Indicating that the truth will always prevail.

Social media reactions were fast to relate the message to the electoral hold up in Cameroon championed by Kamto.

The spokesperson for the opposition political leader, BIBOU NISSACK Olivier, hours after the incident went viral on social media, presented a communication from Maurice Kamto.

According to the post circulating on social media, Prof Maurice Kamto has distanced himself from the hacked account calling his followers to order.

The post reads “In reaction to the presence in recent hours of an image of President-elect Maurice Kamto on the official facebook account of Elections Cameroon (Elecam), the President-elect warns activists and supporters of the CRM against this malicious manoeuver of manipulation and division. Therefore, he urges them not to fall into this trap.”

It is however not certain who is behind the hacking of the account.

Elections Cameroon has equally reacted officially to the situation.

The President of the electoral board of Elections Cameroon, Enow Abrams Egbe in a Communique signed Wednesday June 24, 2020 regretted the incident and has promised to not only track down those behind the act but to remedy the situation as soon as possible.

Official Communique from Elections Cameroon

According to the communique, unscrupulous individuals hacked the account Tuesday June 23 at 10:00 PM local time and published information contrary to the ethics of the Institution.

Elections Cameroon it should be noted is the lone elections organising body in Cameroon.

It is independent and neutral, though critics to the government believe there is much to be done to raise the standard of the Institution.
