Presidents of road transport trade unions wants Petrol to sell at 400 FCFA and Gas oil fixed at 350 FCFA in filling stations.

The different road transport trade unions believe that the transport sector is the most affected with the 13 points measures taken by the government of Cameroon to curb the spread of Covid – 19 in Cameroon.

“By reducing the numbers of passengers on board inter urban buses, taxis and commercial motor bikes, road transporter are paying highest price which is gradually affecting the transport sector” the trade union presidents admit in their communiqué.

The trade unionists go as far as to ask the government of Cameroon to provide sanitary kits to all registered transport vehicles in order to avoid vehicles being centers for transmission of Covid – 19.

Besides these proposals, the road transporters have asked the Prime Minister and Head of Government to organize a joint meeting in view of adopting specific measures to satisfy both parties.

The Minister of Transport recently limited the number of passengers in transport vehicles to respect the measures taken by the Head of State.

Not more than 50 inside 70 seater buses, not more than 3 passengers inside taxis and only one passenger on motor bikes.

The situation has not been swallowed by most transporters, some of whom are threatening to increase transport fare.

Recently there was a strike action move in Mvan – Yaounde of the Center region as inter urban transport agencies plying the Yaounde – Ebolowa highway grounded their buses to protest the decision from the Minister of transport.

Presently Petrol is sold at 630 FCFA at filling stations and Gas oil 550 FCFA
