The Senior Divisional Officer for Ngoketunjia, Quoteng Handerson Kengoh has cancelled a decision taken by his predecessor creating the Muokang-Babungo Chiefdom in 2019.

The decision to dissolve the 3rd class Chiefdom was taken on July 16, 2020.

According to the SDO for Ngoketunjia, his predecessor was wrong in creating the Chiefdom.

The traditional ruler of Muokang, defiant Chief Bajon Bihai III is not satisfied with the new decision and has promised to take the SDO to court.

His subjects are totally behind him and have equally promised to defend their Chiefdom with the last drop of their blood.

The Muokang-Babungo Chiefdom was created on May 15, 2019 as a 3rd class Chiefdom attached to Babungo, a 2nd class Chiefdom.

The decision homologating the designation of the Chief of Muokang was taken on July 26, 2019.

Upon it’s creation, critics were fast to condemn the prefectoral decision.

The prince of Baba I, Melo Iliasu had rubbished the decision saying it is intended to divide the peaceful people of Babungo.

The prince by then issued a statement.

Prince Melo Iliasu Esq.

“I vehemently condemned the creation of the villages within the Ngoketunjia Division,…. the creation of the villages is an attempt by the government to disrupt the peaceful coexistence of the people of Ngoketunjia” he wrote.

The prince backed up his statement with the following facts;

“… this village is one of the smallest villages around the area, the size of the village depicts that nothing positive influenced the creation of the Muokang Village just some few metres away from the Babungo palace”.

For the past one year, the people of Muokang-Babungo have lived under the leadership of chief Bajon Bihai III and do not want to see that disappear anytime soon.
