CAMTEL, in its capacity as a corporate citizen enterprise, with a mission to develop human potential of all gender, brought together women from all walks of life to brainstorm on opportunities in the digital world. The conference, dubbed “CAMTEL Women’s Day”, focused on “supporting the building of a women-friendly digital economy”.

“Women are at the heart of development and this conference was for CAMTEL, an opportunity to identify how to best empower them in the digital field,” Judith Yah Sunday Epse Achidi, General Manager of CAMTEL said.

She was speaking as she opened the session at Mont Febe Hotel, Tuesday March 26, 2024. Through a presentation and round table discussion, the women explored avenues like; women’s empowerment and inclusive digital development in Cameroon, and women’s leadership and entrepreneurship in digital technology in Cameroon: stakes, challenges and prospect.

The conference was also an occasion to expose the women to digital entrepreneurship and offer them access to the digital world so that they can be able to inspire others.

The CAMTEL Women’s Day, was within the framework of activities celebrating CAMTEL at 25. It came after, CAMTEL Digital Day; CAMTEL Decentralization Day; CAMTEL Digital Infrastructure Day, and most recently CAMTEL Youth Day.

Fruitful partnerships

The celebration of CAMTEL Women’s Day was an occasion for the telecom giant to sign agreements with some women-led start-ups, organizations and associations.

“I am convinced that, through our combined efforts, we will succeed in meeting the challenge of creating an economy that makes effective use of the contribution of the country’s various social classes, especially women,” Judith Yah Sunday said at the closing of the event.

With the agreement, CAMTEL would provide financial assistance and exposure to the various partners. One of them is “EmpowerHerTech Foundation”.

“It’s a very worthwhile initiative by camtel,” says Mernsuh Laetitia Bomba, founder and promoter of EmpowerHerTech Foundation.

She was one of the many female entrepreneurs who signed the agreement with CAMTEL. The partnership will help them to train and initiate kids to computer languages such as coding.

“This is a very big Innitiative because we are going to reach out to the poorest of the kids, especially those in war zones,”

Before seperating, Judith Yah Sunday, sent a message to female digital entrepreneurs across the country

“I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all the brave women who stand out on a daily basis through their work in different business sectors, such as digital technology, which was once considered as an almost exclusive preserve of men,” she said.
