Staff of Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) gathered at the CAMTEL Club in Yaoundé on March 8 to celebrate the 41st edition of International Women’s Day, recognising the contributions of women within the company.
During the ceremony, about 20 women were honoured for their dedication and commitment to the telecommunications company. Each of the awardees received a cash prize of 100,000 FCFA and gift packages in recognition of their service.
Speaking during the event, CAMTEL’s General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday Epouse Achidi, praised the women of the company for their growing role in Cameroon’s digital transformation.
“International Women’s Day is both a moment of recognition and a call to action,” she said, noting that women continue to work with determination to build more balanced and inclusive societies.
According to the General Manager, women are increasingly occupying strategic positions within the enterprise, ranging from directors and department heads to engineers and technicians involved in the expansion of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.
A special appreciation was also given to the Manager of CAMTEL’s Biyem-Assi branch for her outstanding leadership and contribution to the company’s activities.
The celebration was held under the theme “Rights, Justice, Action: For All Women and Girls,” which calls for stronger measures to advance gender equality and empower women in all sectors.
Beyond the recognition of its female staff, CAMTEL also used the occasion to strengthen collaboration with partners by handing over two motorbikes to its partner EJK, aimed at facilitating outreach to clients in neighbourhoods and remote areas.
The company also reiterated its 2026 corporate priorities, including a zero-tolerance policy toward fraud and unethical practices within the organisation.
Encouraging the women of CAMTEL to remain ambitious and confident, Judith Yah Sunday Epouse Achidi emphasized that competence and performance — not gender — define excellence, especially as women engineers continue to contribute to the rollout of 4G and 5G networks and the expansion of Cameroon’s optical fibre backbone.
