New year wishes to the presidential couple, Paul and Chantal Biya has been cancelled.

This is as a result of the COVID-19 barrier measures put in place by the government to curb the spread of the virus.

This information is stated in two press releases signed on Monday January 4th, by the Minister, Director of the Civil Cabinet Samuel at the Presidency of the Republic, Samuel Mvondo Ayolo.

This information has set Cameroonians pondering as to what will become of the additional FCFA12 billion reserved for the 2021 official Ceremonies at the Presidency.

The budget for official ceremonies at the Presidency rose from FCFA58 billion to FCFA70 billion this year.

To some Cameroonians, the authorities knew that Cameroon would still be hard hit by the pandemic at the moment of the new years wishes, yet went ahead to vote a budget.

“They knew very well that we will still be in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 since all the forecasts were in this direction.who and what will this increase of more FCFA 12 billion be used for? Budgetary navigate, when you have us”, stated the SDF MP Nintcheu Jean Michel on his Facebook page.
