The border crisis between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea has taken a different dimension with the latter planning to construct a wall around Kye-Ossi in the Ntem Valley Division.
The problem is that the construction plan steps on Cameroon’s soil and without any notification to local or national authorities.
The move has sparked negative reactions from Yaoundé which immediately dispatched army generals to arrest the situation by placing elite force along the troubled border.
The decision to construct a wall along the borders or nations is not new to Equatorial Guinea. US President, Donald John Trump had upon his election announced to erect a wall along the border with Mexico and Mexico was to pay for the bills.
It is not clear who will pay the bills of the planned wall between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, though the project sounds imaginary.
The intention itself is feared by many that it could further dampens the relationship between the two countries that has for the past years not been at its best.
There is constant closure of the border by Equatorial Guinea, the latest being last December after a foiled coup d’etat intended to oust President Theodoro Obiang Nguema M.
Challenges
The major challenge of the present decision would be economic, and Equatorial Guinea will suffer most given that most basic commodities, food stuff, and even electricity comes from Cameroon.
The country it should be noted counts just approximately 1.3 million inhabitants
