Camtel @25: an epic story – Judith Yah Sunday

The press briefing was an occasion for the General Manager of Camtel to share the credo of the historic telecom giant with the media and other partners of the company. In her words, the story of Camtel “is that of a company which is proud of its public service role”.

According to Judith Yah Sunday, Camtel in 25 years has stood the test of time.

“The story of our 25 years is the story of a project that is continually being reinvented,” she said.

In 25 years, Camtel has succeeded to position itself as the key player in the field of communication infrastructure. It is Camtel that is managing the 12,000-kilometers National Optical Fibre Backbone, which will soon be extended by 4,000 more kilometers. It is Camtel that is managing the four landing points of the optical fibre submarine cables rolled out in the country, and which enables Cameroon to be in contact with the entire world.

The General Manager of Camtel in her declaration said, people forget too often that it is Camtel that provides optical fibre infrastructure to all operators and to a wide range of organisations, and that Camtel also takes the credit of now holding three operating licences for: fixed-line telephone services, mobile telephone services, and transport of optical fibre.

“Camtel is simply living with the times and proudly celebrating its 25th anniversary,” Judith Yah Sunday said.

The Silver Jubilee celebration of Camtel is scheduled to run for one year (September 2023 to September 2024). The activities that will constitute the celebration will cut across all the stratas of the society.

There shall be sales campaigns with major musical concerts as part of the “Camtel Show” event in Douala this year. It will be an opportunity to present CAMTEL’s new product lines.

There shall also be the distribution of a commemorative coffee table book in January 2024. This will be followed in February by a “CAMTEL Tech Event” which will target the student community on the campuses of the Universities of Yaounde 1, Douala, Buea, Dschang and Ngaoundere.

In March, round table conferences on the role of women in telecommunication over the past 25 years shall be organised, same as the “CAMTEL Care” project, a corporate social responsibility initiative targeting local communities and an award of medals to staff.

Still next year, the company envisages holding a major advertising campaign and special anniversary sales promotion from August to September.
The anniversary celebration is expected to wrap up with a Gala night dubbed “CAMTEL Gala” in September.

Moving forward, the General Manager of Camtel said “it is our responsibility to ensure the continuity of Camtel’s existence”.

The media were told at the presser that Camtel will continue to promote its mission, activities and performances through two of its basic principles, ‘Customer Centricity and Change Management’.

“We shall continue to extend our network coverage, expand our products and upgrade our services,” Judith Yah Sunday revealed.

Just like in the past 25 years, Camtel intends to place it’s future around the interest of its customers. Camtel equally intends to multiple efforts to position itself in the mobile telephone sector. That explains the launching of the “Blue” brand in 2021. In just two years, “Blue” has succeeded to spread wide across the country in all 10 regions.

Judith Yah Sunday, declared during the press briefing that “we only succeeded our predecessors to ensure the continuity of public service”. Before her, many are those who have made Camtel’s history since the company’s inception.

“We cannot forget the leadership of Mr. Emmanuel NGUIAMBA NLOUTSIRI, … and the tenacity of Mr. David Nkoto EMANE,” Judith Yah Sunday said during the briefing.

Both personalities are former General Managers of Camtel.

Also present at the press briefing were some brand ambassadors of Camtel in the likes of Stanley Snow, Indira Baboke, among others.
