CAMTEL, General Delegate for National Security partner in video-surveillance giant project

Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL has partner with the General Delegate for National Security in the construction project of the National Command and Control Centre for Video-Surveillance-Douala, Annex, inaugurated by the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic.

The high profile unveiling ceremony, of the new Video-surveillance unit, that took place on June 15, was graced by the participation of Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, Personal Representative of the Head of State President Paul Biya, CAMTEL’s General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi, Martin Mbarga Nguele, National Security Delegate General and a cream of members of government, local administrators and some foreign dignitaries.

Speaking during the Ceremony, CAMTEL’s Assiduous GM, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi, articulated the following;

“I want to thank the President of the Republic and the DGSN, for the confidence bestowed on CAMTEL to supervise, the technical control of these works, aimed at reinforcing the security disposition of the nation at large, through a numeric and intelligent surveillance of the national territory, in a bid to help preserve the security of persons and properties.”

“To say a few words about the high quality of services offered by CAMTEL, its know-how and determination to always play her role, as circular arm of the government of Cameroon, in the telecommunications domain. CAMTEL is well aware of the trust placed on her and the responsibility that entails asuch.Camtel has mobilized a highly powered team of experts, to work with the senior technical staffs of the National Delegation of General Security,” she added.

The Government of the Republic, with a view to strengthening the operational capacities, of the Defense and Security Forces, launched, through the National Police since 2010, the nationwide project.

The said project consists of the installation throughout the national territory of an “intelligent video surveillance system”, the implementation of which is divided into two phases: a pilot phase and an extension phase.
The pilot phase whose facilities were inaugurated on August 7, 2014 by the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand NGOH NGOH consisted of experimenting with the video surveillance system in six localities, namely: Yaounde, Douala, Garoua-Boulai, Kye-Ossi, Wasa and Kousseri. Faced with the satisfaction of the population and the Defense and Security Forces, the President of the Republic has agreed to its extension.

This extension began with the installation of additional equipment aimed, at strengthening the security coverage of the 2016 Women’s AFCON. It continues throughout the national territory to this day.

“To supervise this major project covering a wide range of areas, such as security, transmission, lP and LTE mobile networks, civil engineering power and so on.”

“Our engineers monitors and control each phase, in the execution of this project, from the design, installation and validation test to work acceptance. For the records as part of CAMTEL’s national broadband network program . An urban phase of the video surveillance project, was successfully carried out for the DGSN in collaboration with Huawei our strategic partner.”

“Our cooperation made it a point of honor,to capitalize on the experience gained at the end of this pilot project. In order to guarantee a total success for all subsequent phases as demonstrated by the technological project presented to you.’

The project called “Cameroon Intelligent City Project” consists of:

– the installation of approximately 5,000 video surveillance cameras in all 10 regions. These cameras will be linked to 17 command rooms;

– Commissioning of 10,000 transceiver stations equipped with cameras for communication between services;

– The construction of “command centres” and “data centres” in each regional capital;

– Installation of base stations (BTS);

– The interconnection of police services by fiber optic;

– The activation of videoconferencing between police services;

– The implementation of an emergency call management.

“It rightly showcases local expertise and the fruits of our joined efforts. All these proves, that the Cameroonian government will always count on CAMTEL, “Judith Yah concluded.

This centre built on an area of 500 M2, including:

– a control room;

– a video conference room;

– a call centre (telephone call center);

– a data centre (data storage center);

– an energy room;

– an emergency energy room composed of two deterrent for potential
troublemakers and reassuring for honest citizens.
