Her first stop was in the Limbe II Municipality in Fako Division of the South West Region of Cameroon.

“The project is all about waste segregation, and our aim is to sensitize the population on how to manage waste and it’s importance”, Dr. Numfor Solange told News Upfront.

During the launch of the campaign on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at the Limbe II Council, The Numfor Solange Foundation donated a consignment of communal garbage bins to the beneficiary population. They were equally schooled on how to handle the equipments.

“We provided three categories of bins, one for collecting food waste or compost, one for plastic waste (except plastic bottles), and the other for collecting all sorts of bottle waste”, Dr. Numfor Solange explained during a presentation at the launching.

From Words to Action

The Numfor Solange Foundation did not end at presenting the project to the Limbe II populace, but equally matched words with action by visiting the different neighborhoods (Batoke and Mokundange localities to be precised) to sensitize the population. Volunteers were recruited for the exercise.

The Mayor of Limbe II, Chief Ndive Woka Daniel Ngale, and the Divisional Delegate of Environment and Nature Protection, Fako, Madam Ekwangeh Mercy, who presided at the launch did not hesitate to praise the initiative which falls in line with government’s efforts in protecting the environment and it’s people.

The waste segregation and sensitization project, sponsored by the Tohoku University (Tomoni Crowdfunding Program), Japan, is coming barely days to the celebration of world Environment Day 2022 (June 5).

Dr. Numfor Solange, who was born in Limbe where she spent her childhood is a daughter of Bafut in the Bafut – Tubah Constituency of the North West Region. That explains the unmatched support she received from the Parliamentarian of Bafut -Tubah Constituency, Hon. Agho Oliver who facilitated the success of the project.

Worth noting is the fact that The Numfor Solange Foundation is a Non-Governmental Orgaization with the aim of promoting waste management and recycling in Cameroon, Africa and other developing countries.
