Story, Louvier Kindo Tombe

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (CVUC) have strengthened their partnership to promote children’s rights in Cameroon.

On Tuesday, April 29, 2024, the two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at improving the lives of children, adolescents, and vulnerable populations in the country.

Nadine Perrault, Resident Representative of UNICEF Cameroon, expressed her organization’s commitment to the partnership, saying, “by signing this protocol, you are testifying to CVUC’s commitment to making children a priority in your local policies”.

She added that the partnership would give children in Cameroon the chance to grow up in an environment where their rights are respected and their voices are heard.

Through this partnership, CVUC will advocate for issues related to nutrition, education, and children’s health at all levels of representation.

The organization will also promote the adoption of the Child-Friendly Council initiative.

Augustin Tamba, President of CVUC, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that it would offer children a chance to grow up in a supportive environment.

CVUC will also work to improve living conditions for populations through the implementation of the “production  councils” concept, stimulating investment and job creation at the local level.

This initiative will not only benefit children but also contribute to the overall development of the communities.

The partnership between UNICEF and CVUC is crucial in addressing the challenges faced by children in Cameroon. It is not their first collaboration however.

By working together, the two organizations can ensure that every child in Cameroon has access to quality education, healthcare, and protection.

Nadine Perrault emphasized that the partnership would be a step further towards achieving sustainable development goals.
