Story, Ghatim Patience

The United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF Cameroon, has partnered with the University of Yaoundé 1 to launch the Child Rights Center, a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting and protecting the rights of children in Cameroon.

This milestone marks the third Child Rights Center in Cameroon and the first of its kind in a university setting.

The center was inaugurated during a ceremony at the University campus on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, where UNICEF Resident Representative in Cameroon, Nadine Perrault, hailed the partnership as a “big achievement for Cameroon.”

The University of Yaoundé 1 was chosen for its exemplary efforts in protecting children’s rights, and the center will serve as a hub for reflection, advocacy, and policy development.

As part of this initiative, the university will conduct research on behavioral issues that lead to the disregard of children’s rights.

This collaborative effort aims to strengthen the role of universities and students in promoting child rights, ultimately building a better future for all.

The partnership between the University of Yaoundé 1 and UNICEF Cameroon is expected to produce valuable data on children’s rights in Cameroon and support program evaluations.

As emphasized by Rector Pr Remy Magloire Etoua, “working together for children is truly building a better future for all.”
