The third edition of the NA-WE-WE Sports Jamboree which held in Bafoussam was a resounding success, engaging 500 athletes across multiple disciplines, including football, handball, basketball, and dance.

The event’s impact extended far beyond the playing field, reaching over 3 million people through social media and providing a platform for critical community outreach initiatives.

“The NA-WE-WE platform addresses a lot of the visions that UNDP has and an organization be it in terms of promoting good governance, or in terms of empowering youth and women,” says Anna Ojong Epse Kinyuy, Head of Solutions Mapping at UNDP.

“The platform is that one time action that has come to show development partners that it is time to start thinking and investing community development,”

This annual gathering harnesses the unifying power of sports to promote social cohesion, healthy living, and community building among displaced persons and host communities.

In addition to the thrilling sporting competitions, the NA-WE-WE Sports Jamboree offered free medical screenings to 5,000 individuals, addressing a critical need in the community. The platform also distributed educational materials and essential items to youth in need, further demonstrating its dedication to empowering vulnerable populations.

As the NA-WE-WE Platform looks to the future, it is clear that its impact will only continue to grow. With plans underway for future initiatives that foster peace, resilience, and empowerment of youth and women through sports, the platform is poised to remain a driving force for community development in Cameroon.
