Since October 15, young volunteers made up of climate activists from YVE and other civil society organizations are moving from city to city, sensitizing communities on climate change issues.

The Caravan has as aim to get the position of Cameroonians which shall be harnessed and expressed at the upcoming climate change conference.

The Young Volunteers are mobilizing Cameroonians for a productive participation at Cop 29 and getting their voices on the subject of climate change. Mobilisation started in Ebolowa and continued in the Center Region which would touch down on other regions.

Speaking during a press conference in Yaounde on October 30, 2024 organized to throw more light on the caravan and inform journalists about their role with regards to Cop29; Manuella Ngueyou said “the initiative of a climatic justice caravan for climate change is an international movement within many African countries. Thus the Young Volunteers for Environment (YVE) sustains it in Cameroon by sensitizing the local population on climate change.”

“Through this caravan, we will go to many areas of Cameroon, mainly Ngaoundere, Garoua, Maroua, Ebolowa Bafoussam …,” says Manuella Ngueyou, Project Manager of the Climate Caravan.

The 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly known as COP29, will be the 29th United Nations Climate Change conference. COP29 will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 11 to 22 November, 2024.

The aim of this caravan is also to organize sensitization caravans at the national scale and organize caravans in academic fields to inform students on the effects of climate change.

“We will also meet men, women and youths of local communities where climate change has a great impact. Also, we will summarize priorities in various agro ecologic areas of Cameroon,” Manuella added

After getting Cameroonians views on climate change management, the organizers will come back in Yaoundé where they will organize a workshop to make a restitution of the elements they have collected in various cities where caravans will be implanted.

Those priorities will be discussed during COP29 where they will be addressed by the international coalition for climate change. Through the caravan, YVE hopes to amplify Cameroon’s positions for an impactful change vis a vis COP29.
