The working visit was within the framework of government’s commitment to improve the quality of telecommunications services in Cameroon. It was timely given that telecom services in the country over the past few months witnessed some setbacks which affected operations in the sector. CAMTEL was not left out. ”Several external factors contributed to this situation,” Judith Yah Sunday, CAMTEL’s GM said at the opening of the working visit.

“In fact, acts of vandalism targeting our infrastructure, especially optical fibre, have increased to worrying proportions in recent months. These acts of sabotage have a direct impact on the continuity of our services and seriously disrupt our users’ experience.”

According to Judith Yah Sunday, the company also faces power-supply challenges, including prolonged power cuts that affect the stability of its technical equipment. “Uncoordinated public works are another major challenge as they regularly result in damages to our critical cables and equipment”.

Responding to the present situation, CAMTEL has intensified collaboration with the relevant authorities to protect its strategic infrastructure and bring the perpetrators of these reprehensible acts to justice.

The telecom operator recently received an optical fiber infrastructure from ENEO which marks a significant achievement in service delivery allowing CAMTEL to optimize connectivity across the country. Also, the company has signed an agreement with CAMWATER and is exploring potential collaborations with CAMRAIL to utilize rail corridors for deploying optical fiber, enhancing national infrastructure utilization.

The General Manager proudly announced that CAMTEL has achieved ISO 9001/2015 certification for its wholesale segment, underscoring the company’s commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in its operations and interactions with both national and international partners.

This certification enables CAMTEL to offer superior services while fostering a culture of continuous improvement to meet the evolving demands of the telecommunications market.

Judith Yah Sunday emphasized the importance of collective vigilance in preserving telecommunications infrastructure. “The safeguarding of our telecommunications infrastructure is a shared responsibility,” she said.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, appreciated the General Manager of CAMTEL for her innovative leadership at the helm of the state corporation despite the challenging times.

The working visit follows hard on the heels of that of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB).

The visit ended with a field visit to some vital infrastructure managed by CAMTEL.
