About seven orphans are feared to have been infected in same orphanage.
The Senior Divisional Officer of Upper Nkam Division, West region of Cameroon, Ndongo L. who raised the alert has taken strict measures to contain the infection and prevent it’s spread to other parts of the Division.
According to a Communique from the SDO, the discovery of about seven suspected cases of Covid-19 was in an orphanage in Bakou Sub Division.
The Communique indicates that some expatriates (two of them) who recently visited the orphanage were tested positive for Covid-19 at the airport on their way back, and since then some of the orphans they came in contact with have been presenting strange signs.
While waiting for official confirmation from the right quarters, the SDO immediately signed the suspension of all major weekly markets in Bakou Sub Division and all the other Sub Divisions of the Division.
The move is aimed at preventing further contacts which could promote the spread of the virus in the Division.
The Senior Divisional Officer believes that locals who equally came in contact with the orphans through visits could be meeting with others in markets and other gatherings.
Besides the suspension of markets, all drinking spots in the Division have been urged not to allow customers drink on the spot, meanwhile unnecessary movements shall be discouraged in the Division.
Cameroon now counts over 580 positive Covid-19 patients with the West region occupying the 3rd position in terms of high level of infection.
