The two media gurus were recognised for their selfless services to the nation. It was during the 2023 graduation ceremony at the ICT University. According to the Vice Chancellor of the ICT University, Prof. Jean Emmanuel Pondi, the honourees, Charles Ndongo and Eric Chinje “deserve to be celebrated”.
Speaking to the graduates at the ceremony, the General Manager of CRTV, reminded them of the notion of perseverance. “I have spent forty years in active field service and you know that,” Charles Ndongo told them corroborating the notion of perseverance which is very dear to him.
The lifetime achievement awards was given to them at a time when the ICT University is launching its Journalism and Mass Communication section.
“I am delighted to embrace this journey,” Eric Chinje said.
“Our country needs ICT tools, but we also need journalists who will master these tools.”
The digital media (ICTs in Journalism and Mass Communication) is one of the innovations of the ICT University.
Charles Ndongo and Eric Chinje both enjoined the graduates to make good use of the digital tools and skills acquired from the University.
“You now have the tools, go and use it for the service of the nation,” Eric Chinje said.
The ceremony it should be noted was placed on the theme “the place of the ICT University in the ethical construction of the nation”.
It was chaired by the representative of the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Prof. Cosmos Cheka, who tasked the graduates to put the knowledge gained from the institution at the service of the nation, especially but not limited to hate speech.
“With the current phenomenon of hate speech, you need to use ICT tools to combat hate in the society, so that our nation, Cameroon will develop in peace, love and unity,” he said.
The founder and president of the ICT University, Prof. Victor Mbarika, could not hide his feelings at the ceremony. He was very attached to ths case of persons with disabilities who are excelling in their studies, including the presence of foreign students at the university.
“It’s a great accomplishment for us,” Prof. Victor Mbarika said.
The graduation ceremony was attended by a plethora of government officials and university dons.
Worth noting is the fact that the American-styled ICT University, is designed to train students on job creation like other world class institutions. It is to raise authors of employment.
“That is what makes us different and unique,” Prof. Victor Mbarika.
