The personnel have been sensitized on the legislative and regulatory framework governing the management of public funds in Cameroon especially on the notions of mismanagement and irregularities.

In this digital era, Cameroon Telecommunications, Camtel is charged with the mission to promote, expand, develop, modernize and secure public Telecom services in the country.

The company is one of those strategic enterprises which are not permitted to register failures in exercising it’s duties.

But to avoid failure, the managers and staff of Camtel have to first of all master how to use and protect public assets at their disposal.

It was against this backdrop that the management of Camtel, solicited the Supreme State Audit Office (CONSUPE) to school it’s personnel on the various aspects;

– Notions of irregularities and mismanagement,
– Accountability for mismanagement,
– Good management practices of public companies,
– The national legal framework of public fund management and governance of public enterprises in Cameroon.

The workshop that held on the theme “Securing Public Assets” was co-chaired by the Minister Delagate at the Presidency of the Republic in charge of Supreme State Audit, Rose Mbah Acha, and the General Manager of Camtel, Judith Yah Sunday.

Speaking at the opening, the GM of Camtel thanked CONSUPE for accepting to update her staff on the normative and institutional framework governing public enterprises in Cameroon, as well as on the regime of responsibilities and applicable sanctions.

On her part, the CONSUPE boss enjoined the trainees to make good use of the workshop.

“When next my control team visits Camtel, we expect to record zero or minimal irregularities relative to governance and management” she told News Upfront reporters.

The six days training programme took place in two shifts and two groups.

The first group received training from Monday July 20 to Wednesday July 22 at the conference room of CONSUPE in Yaounde.

The seminar was a resounding success and participants went home equipped to fight malpractices of all sort.

One of them who preferred not to be mentioned told News Upfront;

“I now master the conditions under which an irregularity can be attributed to someone, and how to determine individual responsibility in complex structures like Camtel”.

He continued that thanks to the training, he can perfectly distinguish between irregularity, mismanagement and criminal offence.
