The Cameroon railway company has opened internal investigations to determine the cause of the train derailment of Monday October 5, 2020.

The freight train derailed along the Yaounde-Douala railway, precisely around the Eseka Gendarmerie Territorial Brigade in the Nyong and Kelle Division of the centre region.

According to a release from Camrail, No human life was lost in the accident but the material damage is enormous.

The derailment led to the destruction of about 400m of the railway line.

About a dozen wagons went off the rails emptying it’s contents (mainly logs) into the neighborhood.

The release further states that the accident would not impact the activities of passenger-train-transportation.

A commision of inquiry has been created to point out the exact cause of the derailment and also to take official stock of the damage incurred.

Camrail experts according to the General Manager of the company are already at work to fix the damaged railway line.

It is not the first time a train derailment is recorded in the locality.

The October 2016 deadly train derailment in Eseka is still fresh in the minds of many.
