The government is on the verge of closing and freezing the account of the fund raising project initiated by the leader of the CRM Party, Maurice Kamto.

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji is categoric that the association presented by Maurice Kamto as responsible for the ongoing fund raising exercise aimed at assisting Cameroonians during this period of Coronavirus is illegal.

To the MINAT Boss, organisers of the activity has violated a serries of laws in the country and must be held responsible for their acts.

Paul Atanga Nji on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 in a correspondence addressed to the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze presented reasons why the government must not allow illegal activities to prosper in the country.

The Minister of Territorial Administration started by saying he is not aware of the existence of any association in Cameroon named Suivie-Cameroon-Survival-Initiative, and consequently any activity carried out by the association is illegal.

One of the key activity of the association is a fund raiser to assist Cameroonians in this challenging period of Coronavirus.

This again, the MINAT Boss quoted law no 83/002 of 21 July 1983 and it’s application decree no 85/1131 of 14 August 1985 to indicate that the activity is illegal because the law stipulates that such activities are supposed to be officially authorised by the Minister of Territorial Administration which is not the case.

Paul Atanga Nji questioned why Afriland First Bank could in the first place open a Bank Account for an illegal association that has not respected the normal procedure to do so.

The minister had also written to the General Manager of the bank to reverse any move taken so far with the initiative.

As a man of law, and given that financial institutions are under the Ministry of Finance, Paul Atanga Nji requests his colleague of Finance to cause an investigation into the activities of the Kamto’s led Suivie-Cameroon-Survival-Initiative.

The National Agency For Financial Investigation, ANIF, according to the Minister should be solicited to carry the Investigation which should culminate with a closure and freezing of the Sub Account at the bank.

Those found guilty should also be held responsible with possibilities of judicial proceedings.

All attempts by News Upfront to get the reaction of Maurice Kamto did not yield fruits, but in his recent outing, the CRM scribe had indicated that Suivie-Cameroon-Survival-Initiative is an organization of the Cameroonian people and thus needed no authorization to operate.
