The seaside city of Limbe turned yellow on Tuesday, October 7, as Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute led a thunderous call for Fako Division to secure President Paul Biya’s victory in the October 12 presidential election.
Despite heavy rains, thousands of Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) militants and sympathizers filled the Limbe Community Field in a show of loyalty and resolve.
“Fako, you have killed an elephant,” Dion Ngute roared to deafening cheers, describing the turnout as “a symbol of victory and gratitude.”
The Prime Minister saluted the people of Fako for rejecting the separatist crisis and offering refuge to thousands displaced by violence in other parts of the country.
“You did not support the crisis. That’s why Fako remains the safest Division in the North West and South West. The President is grateful,” he said.
He announced that President Biya had approved the disbursement of over 35.75 billion FCFA to the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) to clear pending salaries, a move he said reflected the Head of State’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
“No CDC worker was ever dismissed, just as no one at SONARA lost their job after the 2019 fire,” he added, drawing loud applause.
Dion Ngute reassured the population that major infrastructure projects are already on track in Fako Division. He revealed that construction of the Bekoko–Idenau and Buea–Limbe roads will begin before the end of the year, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
The Limbe Deep Seaport, he said, has moved beyond planning to the implementation stage, while the Buea Regional Referral Hospital is now 20% complete with works set to resume after delays caused by insecurity.
“The President has kept his word to the people of Fako and the South West. This is not the time to experiment with new adventures. It’s time to harvest what we have sown,” he declared.
Earlier, the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, praised Fako’s steadfastness and turnout despite the rain.
“We will not leave our destiny in the hands of strangers or those who once stood with us but have turned away,” she told the crowd, urging militants to stand by President Biya as the symbol of truth and stability.
Senator Mbella Moki Charles cautioned against being swayed by opposition voices, saying only President Biya has proven results.
“President Biya runs on rewards, not promises,” he said. “Those seeking to replace him are political opportunists chasing self-interest. Fako must not gamble away what it has built.”
CPDM Fako 1A Section President, Ludwig Makaka Williams, pledged total and unconditional support, promising a “100% victory for our champion.”
As the rally ended, chants of “Paul Biya! Paul Biya!” thundered through Limbe’s rain-soaked streets. Supporters waved party flags and sang songs of victory, vowing to translate their enthusiasm into votes on election day.
For the Prime Minister, one message rang loud and clear: Fako remains the cornerstone of Biya’s victory path.
