The Yaounde Chapter of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ – Yde) has initiated a partnership with a renown Higher Institution of learning based in Yaoundé, Siantou University Institute (SUI), aimed at providing opportunities for English speaking journalists to obtain professional certificates and further their education at discounted rates in the Institution.
The idea was discussed on Wednesday August 4, 2021 during a media tour to the radio station of the Siantou Group and Media, Radio Tiemeni Siantou (RTS).
The Partnership request was tabled by CAMASEJ Yaounde Executive Bureau to the Station Manager of RTS, Eric Boniface Tchouakeu, for unward transmission to the President General of the Siantou Group and Media, Mr. Wantou Siantou Lucien.
Besides providing discounts to CAMASEJ members who want to obtain professional certificates or further their studies, CAMASEJ is also seeking to partner with the Radio Station and the School to mentor young and student journalists through the organisation of professional talks, orientation sessions, among others.
Responding to the requests from CAMASEJ, the Station Manager of RTS, Eric B. Tchouakeu, stated that he is ready and available to work with CAMASEJ Yaounde in defining the terms of the partnership which would be tabled to the President General of the Siantou Group and Media to be signed accordingly.
Further similar partnerships with other private Higher Institutions of Learning are in the pipeline for CAMASEJ – Yaounde.
The Media Tour
The visit to RTS was in line with CAMASEJ Yaounde’s Media Tour aimed at sensitizing Media organs employing English speaking journalists, as well as the journalists themselves on the importance of belonging and participating actively in the activities of the association.
“Radio Tiemeni Siantou is a force to reckon with amongst private media organs in Cameroon, English speaking journalists of the radio like their peers elswhere when they join CAMASEJ, they are exposed to professional training opportunities, mentorships by senior and experienced colleagues in the profession, among many other advantages that would build their skills and talents” Amindeh Blaise Atabong, PRO of CAMASEJ – Yde told the staff and personnel of Radio Tiemeni Siantou.
The President of CAMASEJ – Yde, Ndi Eugene Ndi, hailed the management of Radio Tiemeni Siantou given that three of the four English speaking journalists are active members of the chapter, and the fourth is a registered member. Ndi, however pleaded with the top management of the radio to try to recruit more English staff for they are graduating annually from professional schools.
The Station Manager revealed that a plan to recruit more English speaking staff would be activated anytime soon, since the launching of a Television Station (Siantou Television) is around the corner.
The CAMASEJ delegation was received upon arrival at the radio by the Station Manager who immediately urshered them to the broadcast studio for a live interview during the prime time English newscast presented by staff lady, Vanissa Mafouokeng.
CAMASEJ Yaounde intends to visit all media organs within the region (public or private) that employs English speaking staff.
