The minister of Post and Telecommunication Minette Libom Li Likeng, has inaugurated an Inclusive Multimedia Center at the Centre for Rehabilitated Blind Youths of Cameroon, CJARC, in Yaounde.
That was Wednesday December 2nd 2020.
While chairing the ceremony, Minette Libong Li Likeng, urged the authorities of CJARC to make good use of the digitalised equipment, so as to enable disable persons integrate the digital world.
The minister also reminded public opinion that Cameroon had embarked into the new digital economy, thus, the need to promote an electronic inclusion through the widespread of ICTs for all components of the society.
“In our digital transformation of Cameroon, nobody should be left behind, even if they’re persons with disabilities or not. With those equipment, those who can not see will use the same documents as those who can see. They can be connected, use internet, normatter their state of handicapped” She said adding that;
“If we really want to succeed in the digital transformation of Cameroon, we must do it together. So today, we are going to work for the emergence of our country with all Cameroonian. This equipment are a prove of what digital inclusion can do to put everybody together”.
The founder of this center, Coco Bertin, expressed gratitude to the government for enabling disable persons to access the digital world.
To him, this center will go a long way to widen the knowledge and achievements of disable persons
“We are very happy to see how the government is taking into consideration persons with disabilities, as far as persons with numerical fractures are concerned. Persons with disabilities have the problem of accessibility and this multimedia Inclusive center will help them to be trained in different domains. They can read, write easily visit the internet, and improve their knowledge in different fields. So we think it is a very important tool for persons with disabilities of our country” Coco Bertin told News Upfront.
The visually impaired were pleased to receive their newly equipped multimedia center.
The center is comprised of a braille editing and transcription area, a fully equipped training area, a céciweb space, a sound library space, and a production area in black. This will facilitate their integration into the digital world.
The inauguration which is a fulfilled promise to CJARC comes a day to the celebration of the 29th edition of the International Day for Persons with disabilities.
It is Commemorated under the theme “Building back better: towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID_19 world by, for and with persons with disabilities”.
