The Pan-African Media Alliance for Climate Change – PAMACC, has called for the immediate release of Line Line Renée Anaba Batonge, international evironment journalist and member of the organization (PAMACC Afr.), arrested in Batouri Betoua – Cameroon.

According to PAMACC’s Central Africa regional coordinator, Elias Ngalame, she was picked up while carrying out an investigative report on the illegal natural resource exploitation in the area.

News Upfront gathered that she was investigating the impact of forest exploitation on the living conditions of the population of the East region, precisely the case of a locality known as “tête d’élephant”.

A statement from PAMACC Central Africa indicates that the Journalist, Line Renée Anaba is currently detained on the orders of the administrative officer of the area.

The journalist, who works with the national station, CRTV was to be heard by the brigade commander of the Bertoua Gendarmerie Brigade.

“We strongly condemn this abuse of power by some overzealous administrators and persistent threats to the work and lives of journalists.” Ngalame wrote in the statement.

To him, the work of environment journalists is very instrumental in the fight to protect the planet. So they should therefore be protected not threatened.
