Below is the entire statement.

Intimidation and Abduction of Stand Up For Cameroon Members by the Government of Cameroon

This Friday September 18, 2020 at about 8:00 p.m., Stand Up For Cameroon members who had left a “Friday In Black” meeting held at the Cameroon People’s Party (CPP) headquarters in Douala were abducted by what appears to be the Gendermarie of Cameroon.

At this time, it would appear that at least 5 members of Stand Up For Cameroon are being held at the Gendarmerie Legion in Douala.

We do not have a list of names at this time as they were abducted (no legal procedure was followed) on the street after leaving the CPP headquarters. We are informed that Moussa and four others were arrested.

Thierry Njifen, CPP Deputy Secretary General and legal counsel was denied access to those arrested when he arrived at the Gendarmerie legion at about 9:30 p.m.

At about the same time, the CPP headquarters in Yaoundé was surrounded by over 30 police, gendarmes and secret service agents as well as the District Officer of Yaoundé 5.  He claimed we were holding a public meeting without declaration.  We informed him that we were holding our regular weekly Friday In Black meeting whose participation is limited to our members.

After a stand-off of about one hour, we were informed that we are free to leave.  All Yaoundé members got home safely.
This umpteenth violation of the law and umpteenth attempt to intimidate Stand Up For Cameroon members by the Biya Regime is one too many.

It has been well established.  Illegal arrests, bullying and other forms of intimidation will not stop Stand Up For Cameroon members from speaking our political opinions and organizing for Political Transition in Cameroon.

The Government of Cameroon should be ashamed of itself.  We will not be bullied.

We will continue to fight for a Cameroon that is just and where rule of law is respected.  You have just strengthened our resolve.

Yesterday, today, tomorrow.  We will Stand Up For Cameroon.
