The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng has ordered the board chair of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (ART) to cancel the recent recruitment of staff in the enterprise.
According to a correspondence from the Minister, which News Upfront got a copy, the board chair, Prof. Justine Diffo has been asked to organize fresh recruitments respecting laid down principles and guidelines in the Telecom Sector.
By not validating the recent recruitment, Minister Minette Libom Li Likeng indicated that the entire procedure was marred with irregularities.
She pointed out the following flaws relative to the Board’s resolution of June 30, 2020 on the recruitment of 40 personnel;
– Direct recruitment without test,
– Recruitment without prior consultation on the real need for human resources,
– Recruitment of personnel from specialized corps without authorisation,
– Recruitment with high allegations of corruption.
The fresh recruitment according to the Minister should fall in line with prescriptions of the Head of State, Paul Biya and must respect the organizational framework document of the enterprise adopted during the Board Session of May 27, 2020.
Crisis at the Telecommunications Regulatory Board became public when one of the board members, Simon KALDJOB exposed alleged corrupt practices in the recruitment process indicating that the board chair is demanding huge sums of money from people to secure them recruitment.
The Minister of Post and Telecommunications had reacted to the allegations calling on the board chair to fix the problem in the enterprise with immediate effect.
Another issue raised by the Minister was the fact that the board chair is interfering in the activities of the General Manager of the enterprise.
Worth noting is that fact that Justine Diffo, in an earlier correspondence to the Minister, had requested the dismissal of Simon KALDJOB from the Board of Directors of the enterprise.
