Protests in the USA are in the third week following the death of black-American, George Floyd by a White police officer during arrest on May two 25.
Africa Global Development for Positive Change Initiative also known as ADIafrica has joined its voice with other international bodies in condemning the racist act of the police officer, Derek Chauvin.
ADIafrica’s Founding president, Prince Dan Mbachi has in a recent release, said “ADIafrica as an organization which stands for peace and development, will not go dumb in the face of tyranny and brutality on fellow humans irrespective of the color of your skin.”
“Floyd’s death is a pointer that RACISM is also a virus that must be Annihilated,” Prince Dan Mbachi said
While grieving with the deceased black-American’s family, he “condemns the gory manner in which the life of George Floyd was snuffed out in broad daylight.”
Footages showed a white officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Mr Floyd’s neck for several minutes while he was pinned to the floor outside a shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mr Floyd was heard repeatedly saying “I can’t breathe” and was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Mr Mbachi said “Floyd’s death is a pointer that RACISM is also a virus that must be Annihilated.”
“The world becomes a furnace when good people sit back and allow injustice to thrive,” he added.
According to ADIafrica’s president, Floyd’s crime had been that he resembled a suspect, wanted for allegedly trying to spend a counterfeit $20 bill in a grocery store and had resisted arrest.
ADIafrica has called on the US government and governments across the globe, to ensure police forces discharge their duties with responsibility, caution and professionalism.
Anti-racism protests, sparked by Floyd’s death, are being organized in several cities in the US and at US embassies all over the world.
Huge rallies have been held in Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and others, with placards bearing “Black Lives Matter” and “I Can’t Breathe”.
The BBC has described it as the largest US protest since the 1960s.
BBC reported on Sunday, nine of 13 Minneapolis City Council members, pleaded in front of hundreds of protesters to dismantle the local police department and instead create “a new model of public safety that actually keeps our community safe”.
Derek Chauvin has been fired from the police force and appeared in court on Monday June 8, to answer charges of Murder and manslaughter, the BBC said.
Three other officers present at the murder scene, were axed and charged with aiding and abetting.
South Africans on Monday, protested against racism and police brutality outside the US embassy in Pretoria.
Led by Julius Malema, leader of South Africa’s second-largest opposition party, the Economic Freedom Fighters, the protesters knelt for 8minutes and 46seconds to symbolize the duration of the white police officer on George Floyd’s neck resulting to his death.
