There has been so much controversy following the death of Cameroon’s 2018 Presidential candidate Prophet Frankline Ndifor Afanwi. The Douala-based popular man of God and Politician, was confirmed dead on May 16 and laid to rest at the Douala cemetery.
The founder of the Kingship International Ministries, 39, famously called Prophet Frank died on Saturday May 16, 2020 at his Bonaberi residence in the Douala 4 subdivision.
It was a dramatic scene Saturday afternoon, when security and medical personnel descended at the deceased residence and were confronted by the family members and adherents who refuted his death associated with the pandemic.
News Upfront gathered that the man of God died of COVID-19: this has however been debunked by his family, and his ministry, insisting the prophet was poisoned while on a Yaoundé trip.
The controversy ensued when the family denied his death, refusing access into the family house to all, including security forces who had gathered at his residence.
Beta Tinz reported that based on eye witness account, the 39 year old, Prophet Franklin died in a road accident at Souza, in the Moungo Division.
The corpse was later buried by security forces and medical workers who after hours of wrangling with adherents, finally broke into the room where the body had been concealed.
While the news of the prophet’s death went viral on social media about, News Upfront learned that followers of his ministry were engaged in hours-long prayers: with aim of resuscitating him.
Family and followers of the popular prophet, have apportioned his demise to poisoning. “I stand here to denounce and deny this allegation. Prove me wrong or sue me anywhere. He did not die of Covid 19,” Pastor Tayong Gilbert, a spiritual son to the Prophet wrote on Facebook.
“Prophet Frank was called to Yaounde on Tuesday 12th May. On Wednesday 13th, he held this high level meeting with these officials. On his way back, he began to feel some stomach bite. He got to his Douala residence and from all symptoms and prayers, discovered he was poisoned during his meeting,” he narrated.
News Upfront has learned that the Prophet’s mother and some family members were arrested for obstructing the process of uniform officers.
Late Prophet Frankline was last seen in public on April 17, 2020 when he donated anti-Covid-19 kits to inhabitants and at markets cross the Douala 4 Subdivision where his church, Kingship International is based.
Before passing on, prophet Frank was the founder and President of the National Citizens Movement Party(NCMP) under which he ran for the October 2018 Presidential election.
Barely 2 years in existence, the party has gained political grounds, winning the Banka council in the Upper Nkam Division, West Region.
Some sympathizers and political figures have since his death paid him tribute.
2018 Presidential election running mate, Serge Espoire Masomba said it is with deep sadness that he received the news and also extended sympathy to the deceased’s family.
On her part, 2011 Presidential candidate and President of the Cameroon People’s Party (CPP), Edith Kah Walla, has sent condolences to his party and congregation.
She tweeted “Sorry to hear of the death of Franklin Ndifor Afanyi at such a young age. Remembering that he took time out to discuss his Presidential run with the CPP team before launching.”
Regime critics say, government hides under the pretext of the current pandemic and the Anglophone Crisis to settle political scores or differences.
Its still remains unclear, the menace the Man of God cum politician posed to the regime as the critics claim.
