A Pan-African organisation, Africa Global Development For Positive Change Initiative also known as ADI Africa, has urged leaders of the continent to ameliorate their healthcare systems within the context of the Coronavirus pandemic.
It’s founder, Mr. Prince Dan Mbachi, in a release said, “I indulge Africa leaders to standardized our healthcare system, make provisions from citizens to have access to good health care, monitor the nonchalant attitude of some health workers towards patient, create better engagement with our health professional while seeking international collaboration.”
Since February 2020, when the African continent registered her first cases, the trend that saw African leaders fly overseas for medical attention has dropped tremendously. Critics have always criticized these leaders for abandoning medical facilities back home for ‘sophisticated’ hospitals and facilities abroad.
The pandemic has inevitably forced these leaders to seek for treatment in the same hospitals they had treated as ‘shrines’.
According to Mr. Mbachi, the pandemic has shown the vulnerability of the continent in the face of despair. He avowed, mindful of this, the medical structures in place should be valued and made a safe haven for its people.
“We cannot swim in the ocean of poverty and hunger, or be ravaged by an imbalance health care system. The Coronavirus will fizzle out but then if African leaders fail to learn and do something about the deteriorating health care systems, the continent’s countries should operate a system free of any form of leadership,” he emphasised.
Regretting the levity on these structures across countries especially south of the Sahara, ADI Africa’s boss said, has left hospitals below standard, leaving average citizens with no choice other than patronize roadside medicine for treatment of most diseases.
ADI Africa is present in all 56 African states and beyond, headquartered in Nigeria; it seeks to promote peace, quality leadership, transparency in governance, agricultural development and training of manpower for economic growth.
For the past 3years, ADI Africa’s has been conducting campaigns against environmental hazards, empowerment and creating employment for the youths, women and masses through relevant skills training.
According to Johns Hopkins University, of the 4,629,575 cases of CoronaVirus registered worldwide this far, 75,280 given a meagre 1.69% while mortality rate stands at 0.84% (2,624).
