Cameroon is using the platform of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-9) in Yokohama, Japan, to deepen its diplomatic footprint and attract new partnerships for development.
Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, representing President Paul Biya, met with his Tunisian counterpart, Sara Zaafarani, to review bilateral relations and identify new avenues for cooperation.
The high-level exchange, initiated by the Tunisian leader, underscored both countries’ commitment to bolstering collaboration not only in diplomacy but also in economic and social development.
The meeting reflects Cameroon’s broader strategy at TICAD-9: positioning itself as a viable destination for investment and innovation.
With the conference theme, “Co-creating Innovative Solutions with Africa in the Field of Infrastructure”, Dr Dion Ngute is expected to advocate for stronger Japanese private sector participation in Cameroon’s economy, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and technology.
Beyond bilateral talks, Cameroon’s delegation will also seek continued support from the Government of Japan for ongoing development programs that have already yielded concrete results over the years.
TICAD-9, co-hosted by Japan, the United Nations, UNDP, the World Bank and the African Union Commission, runs from August 20 to 22, 2025. This edition focuses on three priorities: promoting sustainable economic growth in Africa, fostering inclusive and resilient societies, and advancing peace and stability across the continent.
For Cameroon, the conference offers not only an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic ties with partners such as Tunisia, but also a platform to showcase its potential as a hub for regional investment.
