Yaounde – February 1, 2023, the board members of Elections Cameroon met in their second session as of right which was essentially devoted to the beginning of deliberations to scrutinize and approve nomination files for the 12 March 2023 election of senators.
“This is a key activity in the electoral process,” Enow Abrams Egbe said in his opening speech.
The board chair of Elecam at the opening of the session invited his collaborators to keep in mind, the regalian mission entrusted to them, that of ensuring the compliance to the electoral law by all stakeholders so as to guarantee regularity, impartiality, objectivity, transparency and sincerity of the up coming elections.
“It is crucial for all of us to remain law-abiding as possible,” he said.
Speaking to the press during the session, Enow Abrams Egbe revealed that in the days ahead and after the examination process, Elecam shall publish the list of retained and rejected candidates.
The deliberations opened with the adoption of an efficient, objective and transparent working guide.
The second session as of right of the electoral board opened barely days after the board members returned from the field where they visited their respective regional and sub regional representations with a view to assess the level of preparedness of the Directorate General of Elections across the country.
It equally opened weeks after some two Elecam scribes were killed in Bamenda, North West region of Cameroon within 24 hours.
A minute of silence was observed in their memory.
Elecam, it should be noted is supposed to publish the official list of candidates for the election at least 15 days to the day of the polls, so that campaign exercises could be launched.
