The police officer was trying to safe an alleged thief from being burnt alive when the angry mob pounced on him.
The incident happened in Edea, in the Sanaga Maritime Division of the Littoral region.
He however succeeded in saving the life of the accused.
The young man was accused of stealing a commercial motorbike in the area.
The police officer sustained severe injuries but News Upfront gathered that he is responding to treatment.
