Community Impact for Africa, CIfA, a Bamenda based not-for-profit organization has pulled government’s attention to do more for persons living with disabilities in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Matching words with action, CIfA has designed an adaptive hand wash tool which is disability-friendly.
“Our adaptive hand wash tool is made of a crutch stand, a rotatory chair which can be used by both persons on a wheelchair and those on crutches”, Mrs. Lidwina Muting, CEO of CIfA told News Upfront.
While donating this tool produced with local materials at the Bamenda Main Market on Saturday May16, CIfA insists it hopes the donation serves as an eye-opener to government and stakeholders who often times exclude people with special needs in the fight against most diseases.
“This adaptive hand wash tool is in a bid to educate administrative authorities, councils as well as owners of public premises like transport agencies to be able to do so for their premises so that persons with disabilities can feel included in the fight against COVID19”, Lidwina added.
With several measures put in place by governments and the World Health Organisation to curb the spread of COVID-19, there exist some lapses in the implementation of these measures.
One of such lapse common in Cameroon is the inclusive nature of these actions. In most, if not all actions taken on the field, persons living with disabilities are almost neglected.
Public officials who have so far multiplied the availability of hand wash tools at strategic positions in the city of Bamenda are expected to consider the plight of persons with disability in their donations.
Beneficiaries and well-wishers at the Bamenda Main Market donation ground equally received some basic hygiene kits; this left them so much satisfied, feeling catered for.
While receiving the gesture, Mr. Njie Sylvester, Market Master of Bamenda Main Market said he was very impressed with CIfA’s action for thinking of persons with disabilities.
To him, such move should be multiplied across the city in order to boost the involvement of persons with disabilities in the fight against COVID19.
CIfA equally placed on the walls around the hand wash point some posters of COVID19 prevention measures in sign language designed by Australian AID and Christian Blind Mission, CBM to enforce sensitization on the subject in this community.
CIfA creating safe spaces for all and bridging the gap between all age is our goal. Thank you News Upfront for sharing our story
