The statesman who fought alongside the SDF Party for democracy in Cameroon died early this morning April 13, 2020 at a hospital in Yaounde.
He was parliamentarian for Momo West, Batibo in the North West region of Cameroon.
Hon Joseph Mbah Ndam has served as Member of Parliament at the National Assembly for closed to 22 years.
From 1997 to 2020, Hon Joseph Mbah Ndam spent four mandates at the glass house in Cameroon’s Political capital, Yaounde.
He was once, one of the vice presidents of the glass house in Cameroon during his two last mandates.
During the first two mandates, Mbah Ndam was president of the SDF parliamentary group at the National Assembly.
Unofficially, Joseph Mbah Ndam was considered as the second strongest person in the Social Democratic Front Party after chairman Ni John Fru Ndi.
Joseph Mbah Ndam was a lawyer by profession and has defended a series of cases in the country including some of the Anglophone leaders arrested in connection with the Separatist Movement in the NW/SW regions.
The native of “Moghamo”, Batibo was not re elected to parliament during the Feb 09 twin elections and even the March 22 rerun.
His campaign caravan during the Rerun was attacked by separatists who rejected the holding of the polls in the NW/SW regions.
The last Public outing of Hon Joseph Mbah Ndam was Friday March 10, 2020 during a press conference organised by the Social Democratic Front Party, SDF at their Head Office in Olezoa, Yaounde.
His last Public words were on his political challenges, the recent being during the March 22 Legislative Elections Rerun when his convoy came under attack.
One of the major attacks on the statement was in his home town in 2017 when ambazonia separatists stormed his residence, held him captive and forced him to resign from parliament.
A tough decision which he took under pressure but later backtracked after the tension had died down.
By passing on in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, people are fast questioning the cause of his death with allegations that he died of COVID-19.
Other Cameroonians are alleging that by failing to step in again at the National Assembly as MP, the shock was too much for Mbah Ndam to bear, reasons for his passing away.
But family sources as well as Party officials confirmed to News Upfront that Hon Joseph Mbah Ndam died after a portracted illness.
The Momo West Constituency in the North West region is presently under the ruling CPDM Party.
It should be noted that during the 2018 Presidential in Cameroon, Hon Joseph Mbah Ndam did not vote for health reasons.
He was actually evacuated and hospitalised in South Africa during the election period.
Since then, Mbah Ndam had not been himself again, though not showing physical signs of fatigue.
He died in Cameroon on April 13, when his close friend and collaborator, chairman Ni John Fru Ndi is out of the country for health reasons too.
Ni John Fru Ndi is presently in the United States of America.
Hon Joseph Mbah Ndam is gone but leaves behind a political, and biological family to mourn him.
May His Soul Rest In Peace.
