Kumba has turned overwhelmingly blue. The population of Kumba and Meme Division has thrown its weight behind President Paul Biya, effectively pushing the opposition aside ahead of the October 12 presidential election.
The message was made loud and clear during a massive campaign rally led by Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, which drew thousands to the newly completed Kumba City Grandstand.
City Mayor Gregory Ntemoyok Mewanu told the crowd that the city’s transformation under Biya’s leadership speaks for itself.
From the Kumba–Ekondo Titi Road and modern streets along Cameroon Street, to the City Grandstand and the upgrade of the District Hospital to a Regional Annex with a dialysis centre, the evidence is visible.
He also announced that work on the Tavern–Mbonge Road would begin next week, signaling more progress to come.
CPDM Meme 1A Section President Hon. Lawson Tabot Bakia assured the crowd that the opposition “is dead and buried” in Meme Division, promising at least 70% of votes for President Biya.
Traditional authorities joined the celebration, with Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko, Paramount Ruler of the Bafaw, leading local chiefs in reaffirming their support.
Dion Ngute was honoured with the symbolic title “The Tiger That Does Not Eat Grass” in recognition of his leadership, loyalty, and contribution to both Meme Division and the nation.
Prime Minister Dion Ngute called on the people to show their gratitude at the polls, saying, “President Biya trusts you—let’s not betray that trust.” He emphasized that strong voter turnout in Kumba would secure continuity, peace, and development for the city.
Adding to the celebratory mood, Dion Ngute donated 5 million FCFA to Kumba City FC, champions of the 2025 National Interpools, hailing the club as a symbol of youth energy and regional pride.
The Kumba City Grandstand, revived after years of abandonment, now stands completed as a testament to renewed development and political unity.
The rally concluded with chants of “Paul Biya—our choice!” echoed through the city, sending a clear message: the opposition has been sidelined, and the CPDM is firmly in control of Kumba and Meme Division.
