The women of CAMTEL were speaking during a ceremony organized on the occasion of the 39th international women’s day celebration. The 2024 celebration of women’s day at Cameroon Telecommunications was particular as the women seized the occasion not only to celebrate their services to the company, but most especially, the gender approach management implemented by the General Manager of the company.

“At Camtel, it is evident that we are on a good footing because we have a woman of valour at the head of the company,” says Ntchama Zang Giselle, president of the association of CAMTEL women (AFEC).

Madam Ntchama Zang Giselle, on behalf of her peers thanked their management for providing them with the opportunity to celebrate. The theme chosen for the celebration was “invest in women, accelerate progress”. The deputy General Manager of CAMTEL, Daniel Desiré Olle, who presided over the women’s day celebration revealed that the General Manager, Madam Judith Yah Sunday Epse Achidi, for the past five years has spared no effort in investing in women. Women now occupy important posts of responsibilities at the company he said.

“CAMTEL has one technical adviser, one inspector, six directors, 42 deputy directors, as well as heads of sub departments and regional representatives who are all women.”

“In addition, there are over a hundred female chiefs of service and section as well as countless female engineers working at the telecommunications operator.”

For five years now, women’s day celebration at CAMTEL has been more of reflexions and projections on the growth of the company. 2024 was not an exception.

The women of CAMTEL celebrated the day through diverse activities. From sports walk, through human investment activities to solidarity and humanitarian actions, the women stepped out of their usual daily routine to celebrate with others. They visited and donated to an orphanage in the city of Yaounde.

“CAMTEL in its capacity as a corporate citizen and the secular arm of the state in the telecommunications sector fully performs the mission assigned to it by the state relating to the reduction of gender inequalities, inclusion of women and the development of human potential in general in various social, economic and technological transformation and processes,” Daniel Desire Olle said.

Madam Ntchama Zang called on her peers to “unite and transform their energies to opportunities and prepare a bright future for all”.

She however asked management to continue to spread the gender approach system across all sectors, and to take legal measures for the interest of CAMTEL women. “It is good to have a financing model based on gender, and to mobilise resources to promote the health of all workers at CAMTEL”, she added.

It was thus an eventful day for the women from CAMTEL who joined their counterparts for the traditional march past exercise at the May 20 Boulevard presided over by the First Lady Mrs Chantal Biya.

Camtel women from all the ten regions of the country gathered at Club CAMTEL in Yaounde and also showcased their cooking skills in a culinary arts competition that saw all delegations emerging winners.
