The pioneer executive members of the newly created Cameroon Online Press Editors Union (COPEU) were installed during an extraordinary General Assembly that took place Thursday August 6, 2020 in Yaounde.
The pioneer President, Janvier Njikam and his team shall lead the union for the next two years.
Speaking at the opening of the extraordinary General Assembly, the President invited members to work as a team for the growth of the union.
“We are stronger together, and i plead that each and every one of us should consider the union as his/her personal venture” he told News Upfront.
The extraordinary General Assembly saw the examination and adoption of the internal rules and regulations of the union as well as a presentation on the activities carried out so far.
The major activity after legalisation was the participation of the union in the commision charged with evaluatiing and validating private media organs to benefit from government’s subvention.
The representative of COPEU at the commision , Janvier Njikam encouraged scribes of online media organs to regularise their enterprises and benefit from the grant.
COPEU lauded the efforts of News Upfront in promoting bilingualism in the press millieu.
“For 2019, we had eight files for online media organs and succeeded to secure media aid to seven” he declared.
Created last April 27 and legalized on May 18, 2020, the Cameroon Online Press Editors Union, COPEU has as mission to promote online media in Cameroon, defend the interest of online publishers and work towards the respect of ethics and deontology of the profession.
