Nera 10 detainees at the Yaounde Central Prison in Kondengui are to be in court today according to their lawyers.
It is in respect of their appeal filed days after they were slammed life jail terms by the Yaounde military tribunal.
A member of the defense council of Sisiku Julius Ayuk Tabe and Co, Barrister Fru Awah Joseph told News Upfront that he was invited to appear before the appeal Court of the centre region with his clients Thursday July 16, 2020 at short notice, that is Wednesday July 15.
He says the information reached him from his clients.
The Communication Officer of the defense team of Sisiku, Barrister Amungwa Nicodemus Esq corroborated the information.
The legal mind regrets the laxity in which the appeal case is been treated.
The appeal case according to sources was to open last March 20, 2020. It was adjourned for modalities to be met.
At press time, Barrister Fru Awah Joseph was still on his way to Yaounde from Bamenda to attend to the hearing.
“Our vehicle was last evening blocked between Santa and Babadjou following the bad state of the road” he said.
Sisiku Julius Ayuk Tabe and Co it should be noted continue to kick against the court’s verdict that sentenced them saying that the military tribunal is not competent to judge them (civilians).
Arrested on Jan 5, 2018 in Nigeria and brought to Cameroon, the leaders were sent to prison last August 2019.
